What's your name and where are you from?
Bob from Northumberland
Please can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Married, 31, with a 1-year-old little boy. Full time accountant, so already used to playing with numbers!
How long have you been a member of Profit Accumulator?
Joined in September 2019, so a little over a year now.
Can you remember how you first heard about Matched Betting and what you initially thought about it? What convinced you to give it a go?
A guy I know mentioned it to me and said he had made thousands from bookies. I was intrigued but it took me a few months to find the time to have a proper look and get into it.
Had you ever placed a bet before Matched Betting? Did you know anything about sports at all?
I follow sports and used to put football bets on every now and then with mixed success. Used to bet a fair bit but hadn’t done much at all before joining PA for about a year or so.
How easy or difficult did you find it to learn Matched Betting?
Fairly easy given how good the trial videos and instructions are. Once you understand the basic premise of backing and laying bets, it is pretty easy to get going.
What was your starting bankroll (or cash float)?
I had a separate savings account with £2,500 in it, so probably more than most start with. Was ideal as I could use it as a separate bank account and go through the sign ups quickly.
How much profit have you made so far?
About £14k to date.
(On the 22nd January 2021 Bob kindly updated us that his total running profit was up to £16,000)
Have you bought anything nice? Or are you saving up for something special?
I’ve bought a few bits and pieces but nothing outrageous! This laptop I’m typing this on at the moment and a new iPhone probably the biggest purchases. Also paid for a holiday to Fuerteventura in March which was very well timed pre-covid! Mostly the extra income was just really useful while my wife was on maternity leave and not being paid.
Do your family and friends understand how you have made the money?
After a lot of explaining my dad has started MB’ing too and understands it now, and a couple of friends have started. I don’t think my wife or any of the rest of the family understand it. They just think I’m a gambler!
Are you a person that tracks everything or do you just roughly tot up your total profits every week or so?
I tried to keep track in the early days with a spreadsheet, but I don’t anymore. Everything is through a separate bank account so I can tell by checking the balance, after withdrawing, where I’m at. Probably more important to track when you’re going through the sign ups. Once doing reloads with a group of regular bookies, it’s less important.
How much time do you think you spend Matched Betting? When do you tend to do most of your Matched Betting?
When I started, for the first 6 months or so, I just did it on the train on the way to work and back, as I had a 45min commute. Now doing reloads it varies, probably spend a good few hours each Friday and Saturday when most of the offers are on and less through the week depending what events are on. Always spend around 15 mins each morning doing all the free games too, as they can often be good earners.
What kind of offers do you do to make money now? Do you stick to just sports offers or do you do casino offers too?
Now I focus mainly on 2ups, simple bet and gets, in-play offers, price boosts, cash back and free bet horse races. I prefer to stick to quick and easy offers if I can. Time is money after all! I’ve done most of the low risk casino offers and some low risk reloads, but I steer clear of anything with high wagering. Funnily enough I also made several hundred from a couple of big wins on the bingo sign-ups.
How have you found PA's services so far? What aspects do you like the most?
It’s great, lots of helpful people if you have queries and offers being shared. The oddsmatcher I like the most, it’s a great tool. I still stick to the old-school one, but recently discovering the 2up feature on the new one was a game-changer!
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of starting Matched Betting?
Get a separate bank account and email address to start with. I’ve done everything on mobile, which I’ve found really easy and probably faster than having to start up a laptop etc. New phones will store passwords and login with face ID which is super quick and easy.
What would you say to people who think Matched Betting is a scam, gambling or too good to be true?
It’s clearly not, I haven’t met anyone who hasn’t made money doing it. It’s risk free, so no gambling involved.
What advice and tips would you give to a new PA member who has just started Matched Betting?
It would be to value the most profitable accounts and hang onto them. Rather than making sure you take the best matches, make sure your accounts stay healthy. A few larger qualifying losses and mug bets won’t cost a lot in the grand scheme of things, and if you are making £40-50 a month off an account it’s a no-brainer.
What advice and tips would you give to a PA member who’s just about to start doing reload offers?
Follow Andy Cooper’s great Facebook posts which summarise most good offers each morning. Make lists or reminders for the offers you will do and when. Stick on regular mug bets to keep it going!
