What's your name and where are you from?
I’m Tim, 50, from Eastbourne.
Please can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m married with 2 teenage girls. I’ve been in senior positions within Education for last 28yrs but recently stopped altogether - our family needed a less stressed husband/dad!
I now work running an Airbnb property and managing a 2nd property which we also rent (more long term). My wife is also very senior in Education.
How long have you been a member of Profit Accumulator?
I joined PA in Feb 21, having ummed and aaahed for about a month.
Can you remember how you first heard about Matched Betting and what you initially thought about it? What convinced you to give it a go?
I saw posts on Facebook by Sam and listened/watched his videos with interest.
I had accounts already with Skybet, BetFred, Paddy, Betfair, BetVictor, 888, Coral I think so initially thought it wasn’t for me…
But when I learnt that there were so many other bookies out there with good sign up offers I thought ‘what’s to lose’ and did the £1 trial week.
Had you ever placed a bet before Matched Betting? Did you know anything about sports at all?
I had always placed bets before, and know quite a bit about sport. Certainly not a big gambler, mainly did a small weekly acca with mates (still do) and do things like Soccer Saturday boosts when I thought they were nailed on! Of course they never are…the beauty of sport.
So knowledge is useful but bottom line with all betting the ‘bookie always wins’. I still have the occasional flutter (I know Sam/Lewis/Andy C/Monika might disapprove but I’ve never been a big gambler and, after all it’s a form of entertainment!).
How easy or difficult did you find it to learn Matched Betting?
Matched betting was completely alien to me but I found it easy to learn. The instructions/tutorials are very good.
Something that was amazing was that many of the bookies I listed above were accounts that I hadn’t touched for maybe 5 years or more. As they were effectively dormant and unused (and I’d moved house since last used) I simply signed up with different email and bank account and was treated like a new customer. Getting all sign up offers.
What was your starting bankroll (or cash float)?
I set aside about £250 to put into exchanges but was quickly hindered as I’d (historically) put a weekly cap on my spend with Betfair. Although this account was dormant I hadn’t signed up as new and so as soon as I had a liability greater than my weekly cap I couldn’t go on. It takes a week for a cap to be changed by a user - so from memory I think I signed up with smarkets sooner than the tutorials suggested.
Of course each sign up takes £10 - £30 into a bookie so made sure I had approx £200 to do this too. It only took me the very first few sign ups to realise that having more money in Smarkets was going to speed up how quickly I could do the sign ups. So, I ‘borrowed’ money from other family accounts (keeping detailed notes, so I could pay back at the earliest opportunity - which of course I did).
How much profit have you made so far?
I've just hit £10,000 profit in under 11 months.
Have you bought anything nice with your profit? Or are you saving up for something special?
I have the long term goal of saving for my wife’s 50th birthday. She wants a big holiday. But I’ve also spent a little.
I’d say half saved half spent.
I golf and so matched betting has paid for my annual club membership, 2 golf trips away, an electric trolley. It’s also helped out in odd months where we needed top up to our monthly budget.
Do your family and friends understand how you have made the money?
A couple of friends understand completely how it works (one actually joined via referral). My other ‘bet for fun’ friends aren’t so much sceptical but feel that they earn more per hour via their professions so the time isn’t worth it to them - fair enough. They are curious though.
My wife just says ‘tell me when you’ve made enough for my holiday’ !! She trusts that I know what I’m doing and understands it’s not gambling. So do my kids.
They can’t believe it’s ‘free money’ so like to tease me by saying that it must be illegal.
Are you a person that tracks everything or do you just roughly tot up your total profits every week or so?
I used to be meticulous in logging every back and lay, which bet at which bookie on a spreadsheet...this got too onerous so…
Now I use a notebook for the purposes of knowing where I’ve placed my bets and what free bets I’m expecting.
I do keep my own spreadsheet that tracks how much I have in each bookie/exchange which I do update at least 3 times a week, more if I can.
How much time do you think you spend Matched Betting? When do you tend to do most of your offers?
I matched bet for about an hour a day, usually sometime between 8 and 10AM.
If I’m sitting listening to or watching sport I’ll try to combine the two. I also do another hour or so in the evenings…mainly doing free games/free spins earnt etc. and checking balances.
What kind of offers do you do to make money now?
Bet and get are my staple. Particularly with Skybet and Betfred - these are often bet in play and get. I do Quarterback Sunday with Betfred as it’s really easy.
Cheltenham, Aintree, Goodwood were all great. The Euros were amazing!!
I do the Betvictor, Skybet, and William Hill bet clubs (WH is an acca club).
2. Pick ur punts I do (usually as advantage plays, less time consuming) but sometimes I find lays to lock in profit.
3. Sky boosted accas on Saturday (and midweek if they do it) are great. They often post the odds 48hrs before the events and so the bet can be placed again after 24hrs. Obviously, like all of us at the moment I am treading carefully because of covid postponements.
4. I have to admit I punt Sky’s shots on target price boosts if they are Ronaldo or Salah. So far so good, but obviously not risk free.
5. Following a post from a PA user I do a £10 no-lay 4fold acca with Fafabet. Their acca insurance requires no minimum odds so I pick 4 selections (from eligible competitions), each at about 1.02 - 1.3 odds. This gives an acca with odds of about 2.0 so it has an even chance of winning anyway.
Since I started this offer in September, I’ve placed 32 x £10 4 folds (£320 bet). 17 bets have won returning £459 - so this is £139 profit alone. There have been 15 losing accas - 7 of which have picked up £10 free bet under 1 leg fails insurance. Even at £7 profit per free bet that’s another £49, and I usually look for £7.50 at least. So total profit approx £190.
6. I currently do money back as cash or free bet if 2nd daily (Betfred, Sky, Grosvenor and sometimes 888 do this, so do Paddy Power but I am gubbed). Again, really easy.
7. Although I don’t really do 2UPs with Bet365, I do look for close matches as betting with them means Denise sends me the odd free bet. If a 2UP comes my way, great, but I don’t look for a cash out, only a full turn round if it happens (i.e. no effort).
I only do sports, no casino (although eventually I’d wagered enough somehow in Coral to automatically qualify for their casino offer).
I am gubbed by Pools, Coral, Boylesports, LiveScore, Mansion, Paddy, Virgin, BFSB, Casumo and Novibet.
How have you found PA's services so far? What are your favourite features?
Love the PA site!
The Oddsmatcher is THE page. I like that you can make and save your own filters.
The different calculators are also good too but I’ve only really used the bonus lock in one over and above the standard one. I’ve used the dutching calculator once!
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of starting Matched Betting?
My advice to anyone starting…
- Trust the system, don't try to be too clever or use your own knowledge of form etc.
- Go slow - if u are a Facebook member you’ll see others post from members that they’ve made x amount in x amount of time… good for them! That feeling will come for you as it did for me!
- Do not move on to the next type of offer until you are sure
What would you say to people who think Matched Betting is a scam, gambling or too good to be true?
Matched betting is not a scam…it’s just playing the system…if you have some spare time or some time you could put to better use…DO IT.
What advice and tips would you give to a PA member who’s just about to start doing reload offers?
Reloads...happen all the time from many bookies….I recently bet on the NFL to get more free bets… reload bet and gets are so easy…
Finally some quick-fire questions...
Football or Horse Racing?
Why choose! I do both if there are offers.
Forum or Facebook?
Betfair or Smarkets?
Again both! If Oddsmatcher says the Betfair odds are better/closer match then I choose them. Otherwise my stock is Smarkets.
Sports or Casino?
Sports for now but casino here I come….soon… ish!
...and finally, a word or short phrase to sum up how you feel about Matched Betting with PA?
Fantastic (refers to the site, support, community and actual process)
