BetMGM’s Background
BetMGM is one of the newest bookies to hit the British betting scene. It was originally formed in the USA in 2018, in a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and UK based gambling operator Entain (owner of Coral, Ladbrokes and bWin).
After a reasonable level of success in the USA, BetMGM began to expand overseas, launching BetMGM UK in 2023, using the LeoVegas technology and platform (LeoVegas having been acquired by MGM Resorts in 2022).
In the UK, Entain has no involvement with BetMGM, meaning that the new bookie was immediately obliged to compete with all its much more established rivals. Nonetheless, BetMGM has performed well so far - even if it hasn’t made a huge dent in the awareness, or hearts, of the public.
BetMGM has taken a different approach to many UK bookies. Emphasising its Las Vegas connections, its focus is on entertaining its customers, projecting an image of glitz and glamour in stark contrast to the mild seediness that seems to infect the aesthetics of most British bookies’ shops and websites.
Only a year and a half after its UK launch, it’s still early days for BetMGM in the UK - but so far, it seems to be doing something right. The brand has since launched in the Netherlands and, most recently, in Sweden. As it stands, its rise seems set to continue indefinitely.

BetMGM aimed to stand out from the crowd when it launched in the UK, and its website certainly achieves that. When you navigate to the Sports section, things take a somewhat more conventional turn, with promotions prominent and featured markets below.
But BetMGM have avoided using sidebars, allowing the page to be much more spaced out. Instead, you use a dropdown to access the main menu, and your betslip appears only when you make a selection.
The full list of sports is again accessible via a dropdown menu, keeping the main page clear of clutter. There’s also a prominent search tool in the menu bar at the top, making it easy to locate specific events.
The result is a sportsbook that is pleasanter to navigate than those of many of BetMGM’s rivals.
Event pages are cleanly laid out, with markets occupying most of the page and recent performance information on the right hand side. It isn’t possible to minimise markets you’re not interested in, but there are a good number of market categories to scroll through at the top, so you’re unlikely to have much difficulty tracking down the market you’re looking for.
The casino section manages to achieve glitz without gaudiness with a visually striking black and gold theme. This is particularly successful in the live casino section, where many of the games are BetMGM exclusives and consequently follow the colour scheme.
As with the sportsbook, a search tool is available, making it straightforward to locate specific games. On the downside, RTP is nowhere to be seen; the info button will tell you the volatility and format of the game, but not the average return.
BetMGM’s Help Centre is well organised and genuinely helpful, which is always appreciated. Questions are organised into clear categories, and the information provided in each is comprehensive, giving you all the information you need without sending you to five different overlapping articles. The button to access live chat is visible everywhere on the website, too, so you can always speak to someone for assistance if you need it.

BetMGM’s funds protection meets the Gambling Commission’s requirements for ‘medium’ protection, which indicates the following:
‘Customer funds are kept in accounts separate from business accounts; and arrangements have been made to ensure assets in the customer accounts are distributed to customers in the event of insolvency.
However, there is no absolute guarantee that funds will be protected in the event of insolvency.’
This isn’t quite as secure as some of their competitors, but it should mean you don’t have to worry about the safety of your money regardless.
BetMGM hasn’t invested quite as much as some bookies into Safer Gambling, but the section is functional, if not exactly engagingly designed. BetMGM’s app bears more similarity to the average bookie’s than its website, probably because there’s less scope for differentiation on a smaller screen. The homepage features offers prominently at the top, with featured markets below, as is the usual format for a bookie app.
The sports section doesn’t feature a main menu in the way that we usually see with a sportsbook app; instead, one can swap between sports using the buttons near the top of the page, and use the dropdown menu to view all available sports markets.
The casino section, meanwhile, is almost identical to the website’s, simply reduced to fit a smaller screen.

Despite being the new kid on the block, BetMGM has already become one of the major players in the gambling industry. It may not yet be particularly well-known, or particularly popular with the public, but things look set to get bigger and better in the coming years.
