Matchbook Review 2025
0% Commission Available
Excellent Customer Service
User-Friendly Interface
Matchbook is one of the oldest betting exchange sites in the UK, and a favourite for both matched bettors and canny sports bettors. But how does it really stack up when compared to the other major exchanges? Does it offer good value for money? How wide a range of markets does it offer? And how helpful will it be if something goes wrong?
In this article, we weigh up all the pros and cons of Matchbook as a betting exchange, from its features to its usability to its customer service, to help you make an informed decision as to which is the best betting exchange for you.
What Is Matchbook?
Matchbook is a betting exchange, which works quite differently from a regular bookmaker. Rather than the customer placing bets against the bookie, customers can place bets against each other, with the exchange typically making money by taking commission. For Matched Betting, an exchange is essential to allow you to place a lay bet against an outcome, thus enabling you to bet both for and against a single outcome, matching your bet.
Although Matchbook is smaller than Betfair, the biggest exchange in the UK, it's popular for its user-friendly website, competitive odds, and attractive commission rates.
When it launched in 2004, Matchbook focused primarily on North American markets rather than European, but since then has moved over to this side of the Atlantic - probably at least partially due to restrictive betting legislation in the USA.
Its focus is primarily on sports betting - though it does have casino and live casino sections available - and, although it doesn’t offer the widest range of sports, by limiting its scope it's able to offer an excellent service, and excellent odds, on the sports it does feature.

Range Of Sports
Matchbook’s range of sports isn’t as extensive as other exchanges, such as Betfair, which may be a downside to some customers who like to bet on more obscure sports. However, for most sports bettors - and especially for matched bettors, who will be taking advantage primarily of offers on the most popular sports - there’s certainly a wide enough range of markets to meet their needs, at very competitive odds.
- American football
- Ice hockey
- MMA
- Rugby Union
As well as sports, they’ll have Politics markets available during major political events (e.g. British or American national elections), and Colossus Jackpots, which are pool betting markets (and not covered by the Alderney Gambling Commission, so be cautious if betting on any of these markets).
Usability
We were really impressed by Matchbook’s usability. It’s designed to be aesthetically pleasing without sacrificing its navigability, with the most popular upcoming events easily accessible from the front page, a simple sidebar to navigate to specific sports, and an effective search tool.
For those looking for tips and analysis, Matchbook’s ‘Insights’ section offers both in abundance, including its own podcast and educational articles, allowing the user to make themselves as fully informed as they could wish.
For the larger scale bettor, Matchbook also offers a brokerage service, to obtain the best possible price from counterparties for bets on a grand scale. For example, these were some of their brokerage quotes from the summer of 2024:
The only slight downside is that, if you have your betslip open, a few sections of the website (e.g. Ts & Cs) don’t display correctly on the desktop site - but all in all, this is a minor complaint when considered alongside Matchbook’s otherwise excellent usability (and it’s easily fixed by closing the betslip sidebar).
Welcome Offers
Matchbook has a great range of welcome offers - it’s just a shame you can’t do them all! If you’re planning to do a significant amount of betting, whether as a matched bettor or general sports betting, it’s well worth taking the 110 day 0% commission option, as it’s likely to offer the best value in the long term.
Outplayed members who sign up through us, meanwhile, enjoy 0% commission on their account - so, although this means you can’t take part in any other welcome offers, this is well worth doing for the sake of long term profits.
Safety And Security
Matchbook is, as you’d expect, fully licensed to operate in the UK under its operators, Triplebet Limited. All transactions are secured by SSL data encryption, so you can be confident that your data is safe and secure - and out of reach of potential fraudsters.
Matchbook offer safer gambling tools, including deposit limits, casino loss limits, reality checks (which remind you if you’ve been playing for a certain period of time), time outs (allowing you to block yourself from your account for a short period of time, from 24 hours to 6 weeks) and self-exclusion, which prevents you logging in for a minimum period of 6 months.
Matchbook will also check in with you or pause your account if your gambling volume or losses seem to be excessively high. While this may seem annoying if you’re Matched Betting, and therefore not actually losing any money at all, so long as you can demonstrate that you have indeed been Matched Betting, they’ll immediately fully restore your account.
Service And Support
One of the best things about Matchbook is the excellent customer service they offer. If you run into any trouble or have any questions, their CS team is available to help through the following mediums:
Live chat | Phone | Twitter/X | |
---|---|---|---|
Available via website 9am-2pm GMT | request a callback via live chat | contact support@matchbook.com for assistance | customer service also available at @MatchbookCS |
Matchbook may also be able to add special markets upon request, which can be incredibly helpful for matched bettors looking to take advantage of bookie price boosts!
Matchbook App
Much like their website, the Matchbook app, available for both iOS and Android, is easy to use and navigate. Its homepage mirrors the website, with quick links to popular sports and tabs to view the Exchange, Menu, My Bets, Multiples and Promotions at the bottom.
You can move between viewing back odds and lay odds with a swipe, which prevents the screen from becoming cluttered and difficult to read, and all the sections you might wish to use are easily accessible from the menu.
Overall, their app makes a great alternative to their website - so if you prefer to bet via your mobile, there’s no reason not to.
Other Sections And Products
Matchbook Zero
Matchbook has launched a new service, Matchbook Zero, which allows you to place fixed odds bets without any margin or commission. Although their sports markets are currently limited to horse racing and soccer, and open for a limited amount of time (1 hour before the start of a race for horse racing, and 48 hours before the start of a match for soccer), they offer exceptionally good value.
Currently, you’re limited to a £20 stake per bet, and one bet per event, which does limit the potential profits you can make - but for bets on the most popular sports, you’ll be hard pushed to find better odds elsewhere.
Matchbook Casino
As well as their main sports betting section, Matchbook has casino and live casino available, so bettors who prefer casino to sports betting have plenty to keep them entertained. They have a few sign up offers available, but do bear in mind you won’t be able to complete these as well as a sports sign up offer.
Virtuals
Finally, Matchbook offers a virtual sports section. Although this isn’t as extensive as most sportsbooks, it does include virtual football, horse/greyhound racing, golf and Nascar, which should be plenty enough to keep the casual virtual sports bettor entertained.
Summary
Matchbook knows what it wants to do, and it does it well. Rather than trying to cater for every possible bettor out there, they’ve focused on a somewhat narrow range of sports and made sure that their offerings for those sports are as competitive as possible, and that their website prioritises ease-of-use and navigability to ensure a smooth betting experience.
For Outplayed members, who pay 0% commission with Matchbook, it’s rare that another exchange site will beat them - and for this reason, Matchbook is our first choice for laying bets when Matched Betting.
