Virgin Bet is one of the newer kids on the block when it comes to sports books. Launched in 2019 under the LSG (Livescore Group) umbrella, they were up against it given the strength of their competitors.

That said, they were awarded ‘The Rising Star in Sports Betting’ at the SBC Awards in 2021.  However, that’s not really indicative of today’s opinion of Virgin Bet.

A current YouGov poll shows that only 16% of their customers had anything positive to say about them which is outweighed by the negative experiences at 19%. They are also ranked in a lowly 30th place when it comes to the betting brands rankings.

On the whole, Virgin Bet is a decent bookie with a reliable platform and adequate coverage of sports markets.  In addition, they also have the casino offering included within their website.

So, let’s take a look at how their offering stacks up compared to some of their competitors and if the poor feedback is unjustified.  We will cover various aspects of Virgin Bet’s product, including the pros and cons and the offers available.

Virgin Bet’s Background

Given that Virgin Bet only launched in 2019, we don’t have a colourful history to share with you. In fact, it’s a little bit complicated.

Believe it or not, Virgin Bet isn’t actually anything to do with the Virgin Group.  It is owned by the Livescore Group (LSG).

LSG was acquired in 2017 by the Gamesys Group and then demerged in 2019 to become part of the Anzo Group.  This obviously meant that LSG and Gamesys went their separate ways.

And here’s the really strange thing, Virgin Bet sits within the LSG Group but Virgin Games is part of the Gamesys Group.

We did say it was a little bit complicated!!

Virgin Bet Welcome Offers

Not as generous as some of the new customer offers given by other bookies, they are still not to be sniffed at. After all, it’s something for nothing in real terms.

Some bookies give you a choice of new customer offers but with Virgin Bet, there’s just one offer for sports and another for the casino side of things.

Sports betting: Bet £10 and £20 in free bets

virgin bet sports welcome offer of bet £10, get £20

Virgin Bet Sportsbook

Virgin Bet has markets on all the major sports that you should need but they aren’t as generous as some of their competitors when it comes to the odds.

They offer boosted prices on a minimal amount of sports which aren’t the best.  However, on the other hand, they do offer Best Odds Guaranteed on every horse race and Extra Places on certain races.

Regular Promotions

Virgin Bet tends to focus more on football when it comes to regular sportsbook promotions.

One exciting promotion is the ‘Big Match Bet Builder’ where they pick one match from the upcoming premier league games 48 hours before the kick-off.

Once you login to your account in that period, a pop-up will appear confirming how much the offer is for.  This can vary from £1 to £20.

Another tasty freebie that Virgin Bet offers is ‘Fives’ which is a random selection so there’s no customer input.

Monday to Friday, customers need to access the ‘Fives’ section of the website each day to unlock a player. If any of those players score a goal in the weekend's football matches, you are awarded cash prizes.

Again, sticking with the Football theme, another offer is the Weekly Acca Rewards. It’s not the best promotion due to the outlay required in order to get your free acca bet.

Virgin Bet Casino

Virgin Bet casino offers hundreds of games across slots, jackpots, slingo, table games and live games to mention but a few.

Regular Promotions

Virgin Bet doesn't offer a plethora of free games like Bet365, but anything free is a bonus right.

A nice casino freebie they offer is the ‘Search For The Phoenix’ slot game. Users get six picks each day with the objective of revealing hidden prize symbols.

If you uncover matching symbols, you get rewards of cah and/or free spins.

Virgin Bet Usability

A relatively box standard home page dominated by a promotions banner across the top with the latest upcoming horse races underneath. It defaults to upcoming football matches a little further down.

There is a Bet Slip section permanently to the right which takes up space that could have been used better for displaying offers etc.

Navigating the website is pretty standard too with a list of all betting markets down the left hand side in alphabetical order.

One major negative to the Virgin Bet website is a lack of search functionality. This can make finding lesser popular events a bit of a pain.

Virgin bet website home page

If you click into an event, all of the betting options you’d expect are there, including any boosts relating to that event.

In comparison to some of their competitors, we think the display of these events feels a little bland.

Moving on to the casino home page, with the removal of the bet slip, the page provides users with a larger view of its promotions.

The top banner shows offerings that Virgin Bet want to tempt you to take part in. Below that is the daily free games available.

Scroll a little further down and you’re presented with all the popular slot games. However, just below the top banner, the game options are displayed so you can click on those to jump straight into the games that interest you.

The ‘Help’ section isn’t readily to hand as you have to scroll to the bottom of the website to locate it.  That said, once you click on it, it’s quite nice on the eye.

There’s also a search bar to look for specific information.  Shame they don’t provide this on the sportsbook or casein sections!

One useful feature of the help section is that it appears in its own browser window so the page you were originally viewing remains the same.  This can be helpful if you’re looking at something in particular and need some help with it.

Virgin Bet Safety And Security

Anything with the Virgin branding can always be considered trustworthy. As you’d expect, they are fully licenced and regulated by both the Great Britain and Gibraltar Gambling Commissions.

Virgin Bet treats all customer information impeccably and has a strict privacy policy.

When it comes to safety, they don’t let their customers down either.  Users can set useful features such as spending and deposit limits. Access to safer gambling controls and advice is easy to access with a dedicated badge at the top of the page and a separate area in the help section.

Virgin Bet App

3 screenshots of the virgin bet app

In this day and age, the majority of people use mobile phones in their daily lives and gambling is no different which is why all the major bookies have their own dedicated apps.

So, how does Virgin bet fair with their app? The app has everything that the website does and actually looks less cluttered than the website.

Unlike the website, there’s a find function on the Virgin Bet app.  However, there’s no free text option and the find function just puts all sports in front of you in alphabetical order.  This still makes it a pain to find the less popular events.

Summary

To be fair to Virgin Bet, as one of the newest entrants to the betting industry, you can see why they were awarded the ‘Rising Star in Sports Betting’ award in 2021.

They got their act together in double quick time to provide customers with a decent offering. They aren’t quite up to the level of Bet365 but they have made a great start.

Their offering will suit any level of bettor as the layout is straight-forward.

At this stage, the Virgin Bet platform is only available to UK customers.

If for nothing else, it’s definitely worth signing up for the welcome offer and to have a look at their promotions.  By following instructions correctly, Matched Bettors can lock in profits from these offers and promotions.
